Gahr High School Briefly Placed on Lockdown, But Campus Deemed Safe

Few details have emerged on what triggered the school to be placed on lockdown.

Gahr High School in Cerritos was briefly placed on lockdown Friday, but sheriff's officials say everything is O.K. and the campus is safe.

The lockdown occurred around 11 a.m. May 10, according to Sgt. Joe Fleischmann of the Cerritos Sheriff's Station.

Details on what prompted the lockdown were not immediately released, but the sergeant stressed that the school was indeed safe.

High School Across Town Already Being Closely Watched

This past week, there has been an increased presence of Cerritos deputies at the Cerritos High School campus across town after a note apparently written by a student warned of a possible shooting on the campus. Discovery of the note was reported to authorities on Tuesday, though since then officials have determined it is not a credible threat.
