Got Concerns Cerritos? Attend Tonight's Town Hall Meeting

Citizens can voice out their concerns on safety issues at tonight's Neighborhood Watch Town Hall Meeting at the Cerritos Senior Center.

Residents, business owners and community members are encouraged to attend the Neighborhood Watch Town Hall Meeting tonight, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at the .

The town hall gathering is the second of its kind this year and will include participation from members of the sheriff's , who will offer an in-depth presentation on crime in the city. Attendees are encouraged to bring any questions they might have on safety issues and concerns.

Last week members of the sheriff's Cerritos Station and the Explorers walked door to door through Cerritos neighborhoods, inviting residents to attend the community meeting. They asked residents to complete a "Community Policing Survey" (see PDF attached in image carousel) in an effort to gather information on concerns about safety in the city, according to sheriff's Lt. G. Deedrick.

"Your concerns, suggestions and assistance are vital to the commitment to providing only the absolute best service to you and your community," sheriff's Capt. Joe A. Gonzales states in the survey brochure. 

Meeting organizers hope tonight's meeting will help build a stronger relationship between the Sheriff's Department and the community in an effort create "Team Cerritos" -- a collaboration of citizens and law enforcement personnel working together to keep Cerritos as safe as possible for its residents, businesses and visitors.

"I want to assure you that we are listening to the needs of this community and its citizens," Gonzales says. "We are dedicated to working closely with the various neighborhood watch clubs, business watch members, and other community-based organizations."

The  at the city's Senior Center, where residents and law enforcement personnel discussed overall crime statistics in 2010. Attendees also talked about ways to make the city safer in 2011.
