Help Local Special Olympics Athletes and Tip-A-Cop Tonight at Cerritos Wood Ranch

Deputies from the Cerritos Sheriff's Station will give "protect and serve" a whole new meaning tonight at Wood Ranch BBQ & Grill.

In the mood for some delicious food served by a group of friendly faces tonight?

Make it a night on the town and participate in the “Tip-A-Cop” event where members of the will serve the community in a different way.

From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight, local deputies will trade in their handcuffs and work as guests servers at in the Cerritos Towne Center in an effort to collect tips and donations for athletes with the Special Olympics' South East Los Angeles (SELA). This is the second consecutive year the eatery has hosted this fundraiser.

During this period, these celebrity waiters will be providing patrons with a special envelope for tips that will benefit the local Special Olympics – an organization where athletes with intellectual disabilities and special needs are celebrated for their accomplishments.

The funds collected from this event will help the SELA’s athletes pay for transportation costs, event registrations, sports equipment, etc. There will also be a table set-up outside the restaurant for donations as well as t-shirts for sale.

The SELA chapter includes athletes, families and volunteers from Cerritos, Norwalk, Bellflower, Lakewood, Downey and Whittier.

Cerritos Sheriff's deputies participated in a similar fundraiser earlier this year at  at the . The March 26 event proved to be a huge success, earning more than $5,000 for the Special Olympics' SELA chapter. Deputies received $4,734 in tips and also sold $590 in Special Olympics t-shirts for a total of $5,324 in funds raised for the day.
