Updated: Walnut Teen Killed in Motorized Scooter Crash

The Rowland Heights crash on San Jose Avenue, near Nogales Street, was reported about 6:05 p.m.

A 17-year-old boy from Walnut was killed in a moped crash in Rowland Heights, California Highway Patrol officials said today.

Joshua Chua was riding an X-Treme brand moped approximately 25 mph westbound on San Jose Avenue, approaching Nogales Street, around 6:05 p.m. Friday when he veered right and struck the back of a parked semitrailer's flatbed, according to a CHP report.

Chua was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead an hour after the crash, according to the CHP.

The crash is under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed it was urged to contact the CHP's Baldwin Park area office at (626) 338-1164.

A man riding a motorized scooter was mortally injured when his vehicle slammed into a parked "low boy" tow truck, a CHP officer told Patch.

The crash on San Jose Avenue, near Nogales Street, was reported about 6:20 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.

The rider was initially trapped and had to be freed by firefighters, the CHP reported.

He was airlifted to USC Medical Center but the man died en route to the trauma unit, Posada said.

The scooter was picked up by a towing company and impounded for evidence; the cause of the crash was under investigation.

So much for saying that CHP (Cal. Highway Partrol) cares. We gave up calling CHP Baldwin Park to get a complete police report of the accident. They said it will take some 4 to 6 months to get the complete report. Well it been over 10 months since the fatal accident to my son Josh and we are still waiting. Good job for caring CHP!
