Local Sheriff's Deputies Pull It Together to Benefit Special Olympics
Deputies from the Lakewood Sheriff's Station prove they are the champs when it comes to pulling planes.
A group of Lakewood Sheriff's Station deputies competing as the "Lakewood Juggernauts," were tops in strength and speed during a Plane Pull fundraising competition at the Long Beach Airport last weekend benefitting local Special Olympics athletes.
During the Saturday, Aug. 11 event, the team of 25 pulled a 164,000-pound Fed Ex Airbus 310 to help raise funds for local Special Olympic athletes. Teams competed against each other by pulling a rope attached to the airplane’s front wheels.
The “Lakewood Juggernauts” won the “Fastest Pull” trophy, pulling the massive plane 12 feet in 8.2 seconds. The team was also crowned as the “2012 Plane Pull Law Enforcement Champions.”
