A group of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies will be using the vacant retail center across from Sam Ash Music store in Cerritos for training purposes today, and once again later this month.
The department's Emergency Operations Bureau (EOB) will conduct the civil disturbance response trainings with deputies from the Cerritos, Lakewood, Norwalk and Pico Rivera stations.
The training operation will take place on the lot at the corner of Bloomfield Avenue and Artesia Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 23, and from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Oct. 30. Dozens of deputies will be on site.
EOB is the department's primary resource for coordinating a response to complex emergencies and disasters. This involves all phases of preparedness including:
- maintaining the County's Emergency Operations Center and the Department's Operations Center;
- developing and refining emergency operating procedures;
- preparing operations plans; and,
- providing logistical support
EOB's efforts address a range of contingencies from extreme weather emergencies and power outages, to wild land fires, floods, earthquakes, or intentional disasters such as chemical, biological,nuclear, or radiological terrorism, according to the Sheriff's Department.
