Sheriff's Patrol Cars Collide During Non-Injury Accident in Lakewood

The accident occurred as deputies were responding to a report of a man threatening people with a knife in nearby Lakewood early Monday.

Two squad cars from the Lakewood Sheriff's Station collided Monday morning at the intersection of Bellflower and Del Amo Boulevards, but there were no injuries, authorities said.

"They were responding to a call, and I guessed one rear-ended the other,'' said Lt. Alicia Malone of the Lakewood Station, which patrols the communities of Artesia, Lakewood, Hawaiian Gardens, Bellflower and Paramount.

Neither of the two deputies was injured, but both cars were damaged, according to Malone.

The deputies were responding around midnight to a call about a man who was threatening people with a knife in the 4800 block of Briercrest Avenue (in nearby Lakewood), Malone said.

After the crash, other deputies arrested the suspect on suspicion to assault with a deadly weapon, the lieutenant added.
