Local High School Coach Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault of Former Student

Bryan Shepherd, a coach at nearby Bellflower High School, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a former high school student over a four year period.

Bryan Shepherd, a girls' basketball and track coach at Bellflower High School, is behind bars tonight on suspicion of sexually assaulting a former student, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

An investigation by sheriff's Special Victims detectives revealed that the suspect sexually assaulted the victim over a four-year period. He has been a coach at the school located at 15301 McNab Ave. in Bellflower for the past five years. 

Shepherd, a 47-year old Black male who is believed to live in Torrance, was arrested about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20. He was booked on suspicion of felony lewd acts with a child and is being held in lieu of $3 million bail, according to the sheriff's department.

Detectives are now asking for the public’s help in identifying any other possible victims who may have been assaulted by the suspect.

The city of Bellflower, which borders Cerritos, is serviced by the sheriff's Lakewood Station, which is also contracted by the city of Artesia.
