UPDATED: 23-Year-Old Artesia Man Falls to His Death From Parking Structure at Cerritos Towne Center

A 23-year-old Artesia man jumped to his death from the fifth floor of a parking structure at the Cerritos Towne Center today in an apparent suicide, authorities said.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Cerritos Station was alerted to the death at 17777 Center Court Dr. about 8:40 a.m., and upon arrival at the scene, deputies discovered the deceased body of a man laid across the sidewalk between a five story parking structure and an office building, just across the street from and .

“Right now we are investigating the death of a male adult as a potential suicide,” Homicide Detective Steve Blagg of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department told Patch. “The only information we have is that a male jumped from the top story of the parking structure here at (the) towne center.”
Blagg said there were several witnesses who saw the man jump from the building.

Following the discovery of the body, detectives immediately shut down the parking structure while they conducted their investigation, but it was reopened at about 1 p.m. -- shortly after personnel from the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner took the body away, though a small area where the body was found remained cordoned off for a short time later.
Lt. Fred Corral of the coroner's office told Patch that the incident was initially reported as a suicide, but the nature of his death would be confirmed upon completion of the coroner's report.
