UPDATED: Man Killed After Slamming Into Big Rig on 91 Freeway in Cerritos

The accident took place early Thursday resulting in a SigAlert of several eastbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Editor's Note: The victim has been identified as Gerardo Angel, 35, of Norwalk. Click here for the latest update on this story.

* Updated at 12 p.m. with details of accident.

A man was killed when his car rear-ended a big rig on the Artesia (91) Freeway in early Thursday, prompting the closure of three eastbound lanes.

The collision was reported on the eastbound 91 Freeway at Norwalk Boulevard at 1:45 a.m. on Oct. 25 , according to California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball. Initial reports indicated that multiple vehicles were involved, he added.

A CHP sergeant at the scene told a member of the media that the victim's compact car rear-ended a big rig that was re-entering traffic after pulling over so the driver could secure the load on his flatbed trailer.

The victim, described as a 30-something Hispanic man, died at the scene, Kimball said. His identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A SigAlert for the No. 2, 3, and 4 lanes was issued at 2:40 a.m. to accomodate the accident investigation.

All I know is that this is a tragedy and the wife should have been informed of this the right way. If the officials saw the name being hispanic why didn't they send an officer that spoke spanish to deliver the horrible news. I happen to be a close friend to the family and I was just notified of this loss.

Elizabeth, do you know when the victim's wife was eventually notified? I'm assuming based on your comment, that there was a delay in notification because of a language barrier? In any case, my heart goes out to the victim's family -- this is the third person to have been killed on this freeway in the past couple weeks. It is always tragic to have to post stories like this. ~ MarieSam, Editor for Cerritos-Artesia Patch

Hi Marie Sam, if the organization is called Red Paisano Mexico & Estamos Unions we have already gotten in contact with them and someone will be visiting us tomorrow. They also contacted the coroner's office and they provided their number. The officer came to my uncle's home around 4:00 AM to let my Aunt and cousins (Angel's immediate fam) know of my uncle's passing. If you have any more questions feel free to email me.

I live off Studebaker by Liberty and our gardener does a good job, he does 4 houses MondayRead More mornings--I think my parents pay for basic and its weekly and I believe only $40.00; I see that he comes back on Tues and Fri to water and do additional things for the neighbor across the street-and whenever I ask him to help me maintenance some tree branches etc, he always does without any issue. I've noticed that a lot of people take jobs in food service while they pursue long-term jobs thatRead More match their field of study. If they do, they need to be certified in food safety. They can learn about this at http://www.SafeFoodAcademy.com.
