UPDATED: College Student Shot to Death Outside Lakewood Home

Cyrus Alva, a 19-year-old from Lakewood, was shot outside his home on Thursday afternoon.

A local college student standing outside his Lakewood home was shot to death today.

The violence broke out about 1:55 p.m. Thursday in the 3700 block of Arbor
Road, between Downey Avenue and Lakewood Boulevard, according to Deputy Kim Manatt of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

Deputies arriving at the scene found a man suffering from at least one
gunshot wound, Manatt said.

Detectives said the victim was approached by two male suspects.

"At least one of those men shot the victim before they fled a short
distance on foot westbound from the location,'' Manatt said. "They then
entered an older model, white four-door car, possibly a Toyota Camry.''

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Manatt said.

Although authorities have not released the victim's name, friends identified the victim as 19-year-old Cyrus Alva, who was an Engineering major at Long Beach City College, according to CBS Channel 2.

Authorities urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
