Motorcycle Fatality and Five-Car Pile Up Near Cerritos Clogs 605 For More Than Two Hours

A motorcyclist was killed and five more people were injured late Sunday in two separate wrecks along a short stretch of the San Gabriel Freeway.

It was a dangerous night Sunday along a mile stretch of the San Gabriel (605) Freeway between Willow Avenue and Carson Street Monday.

A motorcyclist was killed Monday just after 10 p.m. when the driver apparently rear-ended a Honda just north of Willow Street, according to the California Highway Patrol. According to the CHP Traffic Incident report, the driver of the Honda continued driving and headed to the Denny’s on Carson Street to talk to authorities. The two fast lanes were closed for more than two hours as the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office took control of the accident scene.

About an hour-later, the entire southbound side of the freeway was closed due to a five-car pile up that left five people hospitalized not far from the fatal motorcycle wreck, causing a major traffic jam spanning past the Cerritos freeway off-ramps.
