UPDATED: One Dead, Another Critically Injured When Vehicle Veers Over Side of 91 Freeway in Artesia
The accident on the eastbound Artesia (91) Freeway, which took place at 10:30 p.m. Friday, also left a woman critically injured.
A man was killed and his female passenger was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash over the side of the eastbound Artesia (91) Freeway just west of Pioneer Boulevard in Artesia Friday night.
The crash took place at 10:32 p.m. April 26, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A gray Ford Mustang went over the right side of the freeway and crashed into a retaining wall, according to reports from the scene.

The car was moving at a high rate of speed, heading eastbound on the 91 just east of Studebaker Road, when the male driver lost control and left the roadway, striking a tree and a sign before hitting the wall, according to a CHP sergeant who responded to the crash. Both victims were trapped inside the vehicle.
The car's driver was pronounced dead at the scene and a second victim suffered major injuries, the CHP sergeant added.

The name of the deceased victim was withheld pending notification of relatives.
