WATCH: Motorist Slams Into Tree on South Street Freeway Overpass in Cerritos
The accident prompted the immediate closure of a portion of South Street, creating a logjam of traffic for at least 30 minutes.
A motorist was injured tonight when he crashed into a tree on the South Street overpass near the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Cerritos.
The driver of the black SUV slammed into the center median near the South Street exit off the southbound 605 Freeway at about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, said Lt. Jeff Deedrick of the Cerritos Sheriff's Station.
The wreck triggered the immediately closure of a portion of South Street to accomodate swarms of arriving sheriff's deputies and L.A. County fire paramedics.

Traffic along the South Street freeway overpass was brought to a crawl for at least 30 minutes, while motorists on the southbound 605 Freeway were also faced with a logjam of cars at the South Street exit -- which is already busier than usual during this time of year due to holiday shoppers visiting Los Cerritos Center.
