A 5-year-old boy riding a scooter was struck by a car in Bellflower Monday night, but appears to have escaped major injury, a sheriff's lieutenant said.

The boy was hit around 8:40 p.m. July 9 at the intersection of Alondra Boulevard and Clark Avenue, said Lt. Eric Lindblom of the Los Angeles County sheriff's Lakewood Station.

"He had a bump on his head," Lindblom said. "He wasn't bleeding, but since it was a head injury, they rolled him to Long Beach Memorial."

The driver of the vehicle that struck the boy stopped at the scene and was not cited or arrested, Lindblom said.
