No Deaths Reported So Far on CA Highways During Busy Travel Weekend

As millions hit the road for the long weekend, traffic stats rise but fortunately no deaths have been reported on LA County highways.

The California Highway Patrol today reported no traffic-related deaths on Los Angeles County highways during the first 36 hours of this year's three-day Memorial Day weekend.

The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Friday and concluded today at 6 a.m. During that same reporting period last year, there were three traffic- related fatalities in Los Angeles County, according to a department statement.

Statewide, this year, there were five traffic-related fatalities, in comparison to six during the same time period last year.

In Los Angeles County, CHP officers arrested 187 motorists on suspicion of drunken driving, down from last year's total of 203.

Statewide, the CHP reported 845 DUI arrests, in comparison to last year's total of 897.
