One Injured in Two-Car Crash at Norwalk and Del Amo Intersection

Two cars collided in an intersection near Artesia High School along the Cerritos-Lakewood border tonight, leaving a pregnant woman injured.

The accident occurred at Norwalk and Del Amo boulevards just before 8 p.m. Saturday, said Lt. Richard Harpham of the .

The driver of a white Honda Civic, who identified himself as Steven, told Patch that he was traveling south on Norwalk Boulevard and trying to make a left turn onto Del Amo Boulevard when he was struck by a woman in a green Honda Accord headed north.

"The light was green and I didn't see any cars coming and then suddenly the other car crashed into me when I was trying to turn," he said. 

The woman driving the Accord was taken to a hospital by ambulance shortly after the crash. Steven said he was told the woman was eight months pregnant.

Harpham said the transported victim did not suffer any serious injuries.

Deputies from both the Lakewood and Cerritos stations swarmed the intersection, which is located along the Cerritos-Lakewood border. A portion of the intersection was blocked for roughly 30 minutes.

Steven, a 20-year-old Westminster resident, said he had just dropped off his friend at her Cerritos residence after their first date and he was headed home for the night.

"The date went pretty well actually," he said. "And then ... this happened."
