Two sheriff's deputies suffered minor injuries when their patrol cars collided en route to a report of a possible "burglary in progress," in Cerritos early Monday.

The accident near Norwalk Boulevard and 195th Street took place about 7:30 a.m. March 4, said Lt. Allen Castellano of the Cerritos Sheriff's Station.

A Cerritos sheriff's unit was trailing behind a Lakewood sheriff's unit when the two vehicles approached the intersection and the deputy in front slowed down. The Cerritos deputy then inadvertently rear-ended the Lakewood unit, Castellano said.

The deputies suffered minor injuries and were being examined at a hospital for precautionary reasons, he added.

Several sheriff's deputies responded to the scene, according to witness reports.

The lieutenant said that the burglary call the units were responding to did not pan out and no break-in took place.

The Lakewood Sheriff's Station is contracted by the city of Artesia, which borders Cerritos. Lakewood deputies also serve the communities of Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Paramount and Bellflower.
