Police Seek Witnesses to Fatal Amtrak Accident in Buena Park on Wednesday Night

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train in nearby Buena Park on Wednesday night and police are asking any witnesses to step forward.

Anyone who may have seen a man being fatally struck by an Amtrak train at a Metrolink station in nearby Buena Park on Wednesday night has been asked to come forward.

Amtrak train No. 589 hit a pedestrian at the station at 8400 Lakeknoll Dr. at 8:47 p.m. on Oct. 26, Wednesday while headed from San Diego to Los Angeles, said Buena Park police Sgt. William Kohanek.

When police officers arrived at the scene, they found a dead man on the station
platform, Kohanek said without elaboration.

The passenger train, which was not scheduled to stop, was going past the
station at high speed when the accident occurred, he said. None of the 96
passengers were injured.

The name of the victim was withheld pending family notification.

The Buena Park Police Department issued a statement asking anyone
who may have witnessed the accident to call investigators at (714) 562-3902.

The Orange County coroner's office is also investigating the accident.
