A suspect who allegedly struck a pedestrian with his vehicle in Norwalk crashed during a chase when he drove the wrong way down a Bellflower street, causing injuries, a lieutenant said.
The chase began about 1:10 p.m. on Woodruff Avenue, where the suspect's vehicle northbound vehicle had just turned onto the southbound, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Joseph Nicassio told Patch.
A sheriff's deputy saw the wrong-way driving and, seeing the driver was traveling erratically, gave chase, lights and sirens going, Nicassio told Patch.
The chase ended very quickly, when the suspect's vehicle broadsided the front end of a vehicle on Foster Road, the lieutenant said.
Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage, Nicassio said.
The suspect and occupants of the other vehicle were taken to local hospitals for treatment of minor to moderate injuries, Nicassio said.
It was unclear what booking charges would be brought against the suspect, the lieutenant said.
"There's a possibility this guy was under the influence of narcotics," Nicassio told Patch.
