Taco Bell/KFC in Cerritos Robbed at Gunpoint

The armed robbery took place less than two hours after the Walmart at the Cerritos Towne Center was held up on Tuesday night.

A gunman wearing a motorcycle helmet held up the Taco Bell/KFC fastfood restaurant in Cerritos Tuesday night -- marking the second armed robbery in the city in a less than two-hour period.

The robbery at the co-branded eatery located at 13313 Artesia Blvd. was reported at 9:07 p.m. Nov. 20, according to a Cerritos Sheriff's Station sergeant at the scene.

The suspect, who was described as a Hispanic man about 5'11 tall wearing dark clothing, robbed the business at gunpoint, the sergeant said. There was one customer inside the business, which closes at 10 p.m.

After taking the cash, the robber exited the restaurant and fled westbound on Artesia Boulevard, the sergeant said. The amount of cash taken was not immediately reported.

Sheriff's detectives were reviewing surveillance footage of the holdup and working on some suspect leads, according to the sergeant.

Anyone with information on the robbery was asked to call the Cerritos Sheriff's Station at (562) 860-0044.

Cerritos Robberies Occur Less Than Two Hours Apart

Some two hours earlier a man robbed the Walmart at the Cerritos Towne Center at gunpoint and took roughly $1,500 in cash. (Click here for additional details on that robbery.)

It was unclear whether the two crimes were related.

Geez, what the heck is going on? I've been living in Cerritos since 2009 and don't remember this going on before?
bobby joe November 21, 2012 at 05:46 PM
im really tired of criminals from neighboring cities like Bellflower, artesia, LB, norwalk, coming into our city and ruining the city's reputation.
Nerd McNerdy November 21, 2012 at 07:32 PM
LOL. What an idiotic insinuation. You're seriously OK with making the assumption that this person was from a less-wealthy nearby city? He couldn't be from Cerritos, no way no how? I live on the Cerritos/Lakewood border and know all the surrounding cities very well as I've lived in them my entire life. Your assumption makes you sound like a pathetic moron.
Diana November 21, 2012 at 07:44 PM
Actually, although it sounds like Bobby Joe is jumping to conclusions he is statistically correct. I worked at coffee houses around Cerritos for 4 years and had a lot of interaction with cops in the area. They all told me the same thing - Cerritos is very susceptible to crime because of the upper middle class homes and proximity to so many freeways. People can access the city from anywhere and leave very quickly.
Andrew November 21, 2012 at 08:26 PM
Well, it doesn't make sense to rob from the town you live in and being Cerritos is rather small, the chances of getting caught would be higher..
bobby joe November 21, 2012 at 09:36 PM
why would he be from cerritos? he's not going to rob his own city haha. and also, most residents are wealthy enough. i live in cerritos. i see black people (not trying to be racist lol) coming into our parks and smoking cigarrettes and weed at the basketball courts and parks. I mean the public places like the Mall and autosquare are nice, but some parts of Cerritos are really being brought down.
Julianne Redmon November 21, 2012 at 11:44 PM
Seriously, he has to be from a surrounding city? So does that mean all the surrounding cities get the criminals from Cerritos? To continue with your line of racist generalizations, why couldn't he be from Compton, or Watts, or East LA? Don't they have more criminals according to your interpretation? Please get serious. It's the holiday season. There are going to be more people committing more crimes because frankly there are more transactions going on. Individuals are carrying more cash when they are shopping. Stores have more cash on hand because their sales are up.

Bobby Joe your an idiot. I lived in cerritos for over 30 years. I live in Bellflower now, my parents still live on cerritos. Cerritos doesn't have the reputation that you think it has.
CHS Parent November 22, 2012 at 01:57 AM
Well Bobby Joe in the artical it does not mention an aftrican american committing the crime. Every city every race has good and bad. People have fallen on hard times and are desperate. Just hope they find whoever did this and be punished. Beware of your surroundings and don't shop alone.
bobby joe November 22, 2012 at 08:23 AM
Ok first of all, i said i wasn't trying to be racist. I was giving my example from first hand experience and happened to use african americans. I could just have easily used any other race, including Asians. How was i being racist? It's a known fact that criminals from other surrounding cities come into Cerritos and commit crimes. @Gregg you're funny- Cerritos's median house value is b/w 600-800K and avg income is 87K. That is well in the middle to upper class range. Cerritos is a tree city. Along with the high education attainment (majority of bachelors. check it up on us census), the schools here are exceptional. Whitney High school is consistently ranked top 10 in nation (6 this year), and Cerritos (rank 204 in nation, 36 in California by us news). Please justify your opinion with facts. @Julianne- Precisely. You proved your point. Because there are higher amounts of Latinos, blacks etc. the crime rate is higher and perception of those cities are generally negative. You must be ignorant if you deny this fact.
bobby joe November 22, 2012 at 08:27 AM
@ Nerd Mcnerdy- "LOL. What an idiotic insinuation." this should apply to your comment no? when did i say this specific criminal came from neighboring ciites. I made a generalized statement which applies to most situations. And how is my opinion idiotic? I gave facts above^ Crime is prevalent among the borders of Cerritos and the Sheriffs station has overall done a tremendous job over the years. Cerritos DOES have a good reputation from the schools, median income, and the many parks it contains. Don't be ignorant guys. Y'all should be happy that Cerritos ABC school district even allow students from other cities like Norwalk to go to Cerritos High. Don't complain. Cuz in the end, those students drag down the API scores of our schools.
bobby joe November 22, 2012 at 08:29 AM
Gregg Suyenaga i'm the idiot? HAHA go back to your parents and cry to them how you couldn't succeed in social mobilization and couldn't achieve the American Dream your parents hoped you could have. LOL
Andrew November 22, 2012 at 04:10 PM
I'm not going to go into who lives where and why this or that is the reason..we all have our opinions. Just saying that the criminals are getting to be more brazen. We have the Walmart at CTS getting robbed, The Mimi's at CTS there was an person getting robbed, The B of A on Artesia/Norwalk someone getting robbed..all in a matter of weeks. Hopefully it's a seasonal thing.

It's unfortunate that things types of events happen to begin with. To the gunman, how much is your soul worth? $1500, $100,000?! I am not to preach any religion, but when you commit a crime against another person, don't you lose a piece of humanity despite whatever you believe in? So what's really unfortunate here is how this person has lived a life to have resorted to something like this. Other comments on the thread, yes, generalization can many time lead to wrong conclusions, but I believe we unconsciously do them anyway. So instead of name-calling and spreading hate, let's teach and discuss with each other what we think is correct. Unless you're just a believer in tough love, then on the opposite of the coin, we need to toughen up too.
Dennis Garcia November 24, 2012 at 02:56 AM
I guess Bobby Joe has never heard of white collar crimes. They are quite prevalent in Cerritos.
Dennis Garcia November 24, 2012 at 03:10 AM
Also, would you like some aloe vera? Because you just got burned!
Bobby Joe December 04, 2012 at 01:32 PM
Dennis Garcia, how did i get burned? LOL hahaha bro please. where do you go to school Mr. "Garcia"? Where do you live? Mr. "Garcia"?
