Teacher Accused of Raping Child Claims He Worked at Gahr High; ABCUSD Says Not True

A local educator charged with raping a 13-year-old female relative claimed he was employed at Gahr High School as a teacher, however, ABC Unified School District officials say there is no official record showing that he worked in the district.

Jeffrey Scott Jones, 53, of Huntington Beach, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one felony count of continuous sexual abuse.

He is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled for a continued arraignment today (Aug. 16) at the West Justice Center in Westminster.

If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration. 

At the time of the crime, Jones was teaching advanced placement English at Libra Academy in Huntington Park. Before that, Jones on his resume lists having taught at Bell High School and Gahr High School, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office. However, Dr. Susan Hixson, Director of Human Resources/High Schools and Adult School for the ABCUSD, tells Patch there is no official record of Jones working at Gahr High nor in any capacity for the district.

"We did a thorough investigation of Scott Jeffrey Jones and cannot locate any official records for him in the ABCUSD," Hixson said. "We don't have records of him being hired as a teacher, he was not found on our payroll records, we show nothing on him. We did call the Los Angeles Unified School District and they said he worked there since 1986. However, he was never an official employee for ABC."

Hixson added that she spoke to Gahr High principal Mrs. Gina Zietlow as well as several other longtime teachers at the school, and no one had any recollection of Jones nor did they recognize his face in the booking photo provided by Huntington Beach police.
