VIDEO: Three-Vehicle Crash on Artesia & Shoemaker in Cerritos Causes Minor Injuries

The crash on Shoemaker Avenue, at Artesia Boulevard, was reported at 5:44 p.m., according to authorities.

A husband and wife escaped serious injury tonight when their minivan was struck in a Cerritos intersection by a car whose driver allegedly blew through a red light, and the impact of the crash caused the minivan to roll over into a third vehicle, authorities said.

The accident on Shoemaker Avenue at Artesia Boulevard was reported at 5:44 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

An 18-year-old Fullerton man driving a Mistubushi Lancer was traveling south on Shoemaker Avenue and reportedly ran a red light at Artesia Boulevard, striking a blue Kia minivan traveling east on Artesia Boulevard, according to Cerritos Sheriff's deputies at the scene.

The impact of the collision caused the Kia to overturn and "it rolled over the top of a third vehicle stopped in the left hand turn lane, preparing to turn from westbound Artesia onto southbound Shoemaker," sheriff's Deputy Tom Hicks told Patch.

Traffic signs along the median at Artesia Boulevard were also dislodged by the second collision.

The couple riding in the overturned Kia was taken to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center with minor injuries, Los Angeles County fire Capt. Thomas Richards said.

A Cerritos woman driving the third vehicle, a Toyota Sienna minivan, was not injured in the crash.

Portions of the intersection were shut down for more than an hour as deputies investigated the accident and towing crews cleared the wreck.
