Molestation Trial Date Set for Substitute Teacher from Cerritos

Ted Nishihara is facing one misdemeanor count of child molestation stemming from an alleged March 2 incident involving a student at Los Coyotes Middle School.

A trial date was set today for a Cerritos man accused of molesting a female student while working as a substitute teacher at Los Coyotes Middle School in La Mirada.

Ted Nishihara, who is facing a misdemeanor count of child molestation stemming from the alleged March 2 incident, is scheduled to appear for a jury trial at the Downey Superior Court on August 6, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office

An investigation into the case began when the girl's mother told authorities that Nishihara had touched her daughter in a sexual manner during class, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy Mark Pope. Detectives spoke to students and staff members at the middle school before interviewing Nishihara at his Cerritos home, where he was eventually taken into custody.

Nishihara, a Cal State Long Beach graduate with a degree in Psychology, has worked as a substitute teacher at the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District, the Garden Grove Unified School District and the  since graduating from college in 2006.
