Two Teens in Custody in Connection with Woman's Body Found in Norwalk, Man's Body Found in Long Beach

Two teens are in custody today in connection with the apparent slayings of a Compton couple whose bodies were found in nearby Norwalk and North Long Beach.

A 16-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl are being held without bail today in connection with the apparent killings of a Compton couple who are said to be the girl's mother and stepfather -- a pair whose bodies were found in shallow graves in North Long Beach and nearby Norwalk.

The man's body was discovered this morning in a vacant lot at Atlantic Avenue and Artesia Boulevard in North Long Beach, about a block from the couple's home.

Last weekend, a woman's body was discovered about 10 a.m. Saturday in a shallow grave in a vacant lot in the 11800 block of Norwalk Boulevard in Norwalk.

Investigators were working to positively identify both bodies and determine the cause of death, said Lt. Matt Burson of the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau.

Burson said there was a "high probability" that the bodies were those of the couple reported missing from Compton.

The teenage girl -- both teens' names were withheld because they are underage -- is Hispanic and is reportedly the daughter of the dead woman. The exact relationship was not immediately confirmed by sheriff's detectives.

On Tuesday, relatives of the couple, who live in the 16100 block of South Atlantic Avenue in Compton, reported them missing "under suspicious circumstances,'' said Lt. Mary Leef of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

"The family gave detectives the names of two subjects to contact regarding the disappearance,'' Leef added.

"In the late evening of Oct. 19, homicide detectives received information from the subjects regarding the location of one of the missing people,'' detectives stated. Based on that information, detectives went to the vacant lot in North Long Beach.

"Homicide detectives also received information from the subjects which linked them to the discovery of the woman's body in the 11800 block of Norwalk Boulevard in the city of Norwalk on Oct. 15,'' Leef said.

The teenage suspects were booked Wednesday night on suspicion of murder and were being held without bail at juvenile hall, Leef said.

Authorities did not immediately disclose the names of the missing couple.
