VIDEO: Investigation Continues into Deputy-Involved Shooting of DUI Suspect in Cerritos

Patch has newly released video footage from the scene where Lakewood Sheriff's Station deputies shot and wounded a reckless DUI driver at the end of a pursuit on Sunday night.

The shooting took place about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26. near Judy Way and Cuesta Drive -- near the grounds of the  offices and the .

According to video footage from the scene, the shooting appears to have involved the driver of a dark blue pickup truck whose vehicle was located in an alleyway behind a group of townhomes. (See video above.)

Deputy Tony Moore of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau said at least one sheriff's deputy shot and wounded the DUI suspect "at the end of a reckless driver pursuit."

It was unclear what triggered the chase or subsequently prompted the shooting. No deputies were hurt during the incident.

The suspect, who was described as a Hispanic man, was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition late Sunday night, according to the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau. His name was not released. 

Roadway access into the residential neighborhood from Cuesta Drive and along 166th Street were blocked for several hours as sheriff's personnel conducted their investigation, leaving many residents without access to their homes until just before midnight.

When a deputy-involved shooting occurs, multiple investigations immediately begin at the scene of the shooting. These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Internal Affairs Bureau as well as Sheriff's Station or Detective Division investigators. Attorneys with the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review also respond to the scene, and have full access to the facts known to the sheriff's department throughout every phase of these investigations.
