Woman Dies in Hawaiian Gardens Apartment Fire

The deceased woman had been pulled out of the two-story building prior to the arrival of firefighters and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to fire crews.

An investigation was under way Saturday into a fatal fire at an apartment building in Hawaiian Gardens where a woman in her 50s died.

Crews were dispatched at 11:20 p.m. Friday to the 12000 block of Tilbury Street, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Tony Akins.

The deceased woman had been pulled out of the two-story building prior to the arrival of firefighters and was pronounced dead at the scene, Akins said.

Family members told a news photographer at the scene she was in her 50s and  was found inside an apartment by her son.

The cause of her death would be determined by the Los Angeles County coroner's office, officials said.

About 30 firefighters responded and had the fire under control by 11:33 p.m., Akins said.
