Woman Killed in Collision with Big Rig on 605 Freeway in Cerritos

A collision between a vehicle and a big rig has resulted in death of a female motorist.

A woman was killed today in a crash between a big rig and passenger vehicle on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Cerritos, near the , according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident on the northbound 605 Freeway at South Street was reported about 10:15 a.m., CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos told Patch.

Villalobos said responding units arrived to find a big rig and a vehicle on the right shoulder of the freeway, however the circumstances of the crash were not immediately available.

A woman whose name was withheld pending notification of next of kin was declared dead at the scene, he said. Coroner's investigators were called to the site of the accident just before noon.

The right lane of the freeway as well as the northbound 605 South Street onramp remain shut down as CHP officers carry out their investigation, Villalobos said about 1 p.m.

It was unclear whether any other motorists were injured in the crash or if the rain-slicked roads played any role in the accident.
