Artesia Crimes Up Nearly 20 Percent In 2011

Preliminary report presented to the Artesia Public Safety Commission during its Jan. 17 meeting indicates a rise in crime in Artesia last year.

Preliminary figures from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department showed that the overall number of crimes committed in Artesia rose by 19.09 percent in 2011.

The Artesia Public Safety Commission browsed through the report during its meeting held on Jan. 17 with Sgt. Greg Knapp of the Lakewood Sheriff's Station answering questions posed by the panel.

The report stated that the overall number of actual crimes committed in Artesia stood at 393 in 2011, up from 330 in 2010. Knapp told the commission that the numbers will likely change once the final report is presented at tonight’s Artesia City Council meeting.
