The Nov. 8 election for two seats in the Artesia City Council only attracted two candidates, City Clerk Gloria Considine told Patch.
Since no other competitors filed in time for last week's deadline, the City Council will meet this Wednesday, Aug. 24 to pass a resolution canceling the election and appointing the two candidates, incumbent Council Member Tony Lima and Planning Commission Chair Miguel Canales, to the seats.
Considine said this action will save Artesia $40,000. She added that it is the second time in a decade that the City Council is canceling an election.
The Council canceled the 2005 election after all three incumbents filed without any opposition.
