Cerritos Delegation Visits Washington D.C.

Cerritos officials meet with congressional representatives in Washington D.C. to discuss best practices for the city.

In March, the City of Cerritos sent a delegation to the National League of Cities, Congressional Cities Conference in Washington DC.

The Cerritos group was led by Mayor Carol Chen along with Mayor Pro-Tem Jim Edwards, Councilman Bruce Barrows, and City Manager Art Gallucci.

This annual legislative meeting allows congressional representatives and local officials to discuss best practices for cities and provides valuable insight into the inner-workings of Capitol Hill.

This year's conference focused on many important topics including the federal budget, the Impact of EPA regulations on local government, clean energy priorities, roadblocks to transportation funding, local connections to global trade, and Let's Move! -- a nationwide initiative on childhood obesity launched by First Lady Michelle Obama. The First Lady made a presentation about the initiative during the opening session.

Congresswoman Linda Sanchez also joined the Cerritos group on a visit to the Twin Oak Estate, the residence of Ambassador Jason C. Yuan of Republic of China (Taiwan).  This 18.1-acre property is the largest privately owned estate in the District of Columbia. The estate was built in the 1930s and was placed in the National Register for Historic Sites in 1986.
