DFI-Brand Cantaloupes Recalled for Salmonella

A California-based company is recalling 28,000 cartons of cantaloupes after one sample tested positive for salmonella.

A Fresno cantaloupe producer has voluntarily recalled its melons after federal food testers found salmonella on one sample inside a wholesale distribution center.

The recalled cantaloupes are packed in cartons that say "DFI." Individual cantaloupes are affixed with a small sticker that states “DFI, Huron, CA," according to the California Department of Public Health.

No illnesses have been reported, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

According to the FDA, symptoms of salmonella poisoning include:

  • fever
  • diarrhea (which may be bloody)
  • nausea
  • vomit
  • abdominal pain

The recalled cantaloupes were packed Aug. 26, the FDA said, and may have been distributed from Aug. 27 to Sept. 10 to 21 states including California, as well as Mexico.

DFI routinely sends its products to be tested, and their internal sampling of cartons involved in the recall have turned out negative, said FDA officials.

According to the FDA, because cantaloupes are perishable, most of the affected melons are no longer being sold.

Anyone who has one of these melons should discard it or return it to the store. You can also contact DFI 24 hours a day at (559) 449-0244.

To call this "rag" a newspaper is a joke. They only put partial truths, always sided to aRead More covert friend of the writer and never have done the background investigation to be able to establish validity!
