Election Profile: Cerritos City Council Candidate George Ray

George Ray, candidate for the March 5 Cerritos City Council election, has had a wealth of community service experience throughout the years.

George Ray is currently running for one of two seats on the Cerritos City Council with the election being held Tuesday, March 5.

Ray's Background

George was born and raised in Pennsylvania and moved to California in 1962.
George and Beverle were married in 1963. They purchased a new home in Cerritos in 1968 and moved in March of 1969. George and Beverle have two grown daughters Michelle and Heather, who both attended school in the ABC School District. In addition, Heather attended Cerritos College for two years prior to attending college in Denver Colorado. Heather is now a teacher in the Downey School District. Michelle attended Fullerton University and Western States School of Law and currently is an Administrative Judge for the State of California.

George is Chairman of the Board of Directors for LeFiell Manufacturing Company in Santa Fe Springs having joined the company in August 1962. LeFiell is a world-class manufacturing company in the commercial airplane, defense and aerospace industries. The company has been in business since 1930 and in 1974 established an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) for all the employees, being one of the first companies to do so in the United States. Presently LeFiell is 100% Employee Owned through the ESOP Trust.

In addition to being Chairman of LeFiell, George has been active in the ESOP Association headquartered in Washington D.C. serving on the National Board of Directors and Past Chairman of the Association as well as serving on the National Board of Governors. The Association is an organization representing Employee-Owned companies in the United States such as LeFiell.

Current Community Service

Member of the Oversight Board for the Successor Redevelopment Agency for the citiesof Artesia and Lakewood.

Member of the Board of Directors for the Community Family Guidance Center for 5years and the Center Foundation Board for 3 years. Currently serving as Immediate Past President of the Center Board.

Member of the Board of Directors for The Cerritos Regional Chamber of Commerce starting 2011. Currently serving as Vice President.

Member of the Board of Directors for the Friend of Youth Foundation since its inception six years ago.

Member of the Workforce Investment Board Southeast LA County starting 2011.

Member of the Board of Directors of the 1st CEB Adoption Committee supporting the U.S. Marines since its inception five years ago.

Member of the Cerritos Optimist Club since 1979 and past President 1983.
