Hawkins to Begin 4th Term on Central Basin Board of Directors

Phil Hawkins, a longtime Cerritos resident, will be begin his fourth term on the Central Basin Board of Directors. He serves the water district's Division 5, which includes this cities of Cerritos and Artesia.

Congresswoman Grace Napolitano will administer the Oath of Office to re-elected Central Basin Municipal Water District Director and longtime Cerritos resident Phil Hawkins and Directors-elect James Roybal and Leticia Vasquez today. 

More than 150 community leaders are expected to attend the Jan. 7 Installation Ceremony, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the water district's headquarters in Commerce. 

The invocation will be performed by Pastor Troy Campbell and the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles Troop #13591 from the City of Commerce will be leading attendees in the Flag Salute.

Central Basin's 227 square-mile service area is governed by five publicly elected directors. Voters in each of the five divisions elect one director to serve a four-year term.

Director Hawkins will be installed to serve his fourth term on the Central Basin Board of Directors. Hawkins' district (Division 5) consists of the cities of Artesia, Cerritos, Bellflower, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Paramount and Signal Hill. His lengthy tenure includes service as the District’s appointee to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California Board of Directors.

Director-elect Roybal is a former Vice-President of the Pico Water District Board of Directors.

Director-elect Vasquez is a former Mayor and Councilmember for the City of Lynwood. 

Central Basin Municipal Water District serves a population of more than 2 million people living within 24 cities in southeast Los Angeles County as well as unincorporated County areas.
