Is There Someone in Cerritos-Artesia Worthy of Being "Woman of the Year"?

Nominations are currently being accepted for the 58th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Cerritos and Artesia.

The office of Assemblymember Cristina Garcia (Bell Gardens) is now accepting nominations from the community for “Woman of the Year,” in the 58th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Cerritos and Artesia.

March has been designated as Women’s History Month and each year California State Legislature encourages Legislator’s to highlight and honor deserving women for service to their community.

This year, to give more deserving women an opportunity to be recognized for their service, Garcia will honor one recipient from each of the nine cities that she represents in the state Legislature.

“If you know of inspiring, woman of distinction and service in your community, I want to know about them ... ” Garcia said in an issued statement.

Nominations are open to all women who live, work, or attend school in the 58th Assembly District, including the cities of Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, Norwalk, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Downey, Pico Rivera, and Montebello.

Those selected as “Woman of the Year” will be honored at a luncheon hosted by Assemblymember Garcia on March 25.

Nomination forms are available at all city hall offices within the district and at Assemblymember Garcia’s website, asmdc.org/members/a58/. All nominations must be submitted by March 1, 2013.

Cerritos Resident Received the District's Highest Recognition in 2012

In 2012, Cerritos resident Aparna Hande was named the 56th Assembly District Woman of the Year. (Prior to boundaries being redrawn through the redistricting effort, Cerritos and Artesia was part of the 56th District). 

Hande was selected as the district's honoree because of her strong ties with the Indo-American community and her commitment to the promotion of health and wellness through nursing. She was honored alongside Assemblymember Tony Mendoza in a ceremony held on the floor of the California State Assembly in Sacramento on March 26, 2012.
