Poll Worker Says Cerritos Polling Place Unfairly Accused of Not Providing Foreign Language Materials

A local poll worker for the June 5 Primary Election says one Cerritos polling place was unjustifiably targeted by someone from the Asian Pacific American Legal Center who claimed required foreign language materials were not available.

Dear Patch,

I have been a poll worker for 18 years and have always attended the training classes for each election.

During the June 5th election, a person from the Asian Pacific American Legal Center came to our precinct (located in Cerritos) to observe and ask questions, which were thoroughly answered. A short time later we learn that she has called the County and complained that the foreign language materials, printed in nine languages, were not available, which was a blatant lie.

A coordinator from the County came out to check and saw we were following all the rules and the materials were readily available. The behavior of this complainer I found very offensive and unjustified, especially when we put in long hours to work an election and attempt to meet the needs of all voters.

Sincerely,
