But how much did his House seat cost her?

Campaigns cost money—most of the time lots of it. In terms of dollars and cents, she raised $1,048,195 during the 2012 election cycle, according to MapLight, a non-profit that tracks money in politics.

That figure is pretty typical: the average House member raised $1,689,580, or $2,315 a day, according to MapLight.
