Patch reporter Terence Calacsan spoke to candidate at her campaign headquarters about the early results:

"The absentee votes are only at 80-90%, because many people forgot to send in their ballots so they walked in (the polling place) and dropped their ballots," she said. "We think we did a very clean, very good campaign, so it's for the voters to decide."

Election Day 7 p.m.

Patch spoke to candidate  about the challenges of this election. She is running for the two-year seat left vacant by Cerritos Councilman Mark E. Pulido earlier this year:

"Whatever the result is, I'm so glad it's going to be over in two hours," she said. "It's really kinda anxious and hectic. I feel that I did my best. I gave it my best shot and no regrets."

Yoo openly expressed her thoughts on being somewhat overwhelmed by her campaign advisers.

"I've sort of been doing what I’ve been told to do by so many people. I appreciate everyone who helps out - my friends, my advisers. Too many advisers," she added. "It was frustrating, but I appreciate everybody who helped me out.”

Election Day -- 6:30 p.m.

Patch reporter Terence Calacsan spoke to incumbent , who is hoping to be re-elected for another 4-year term, about her thoughts on this election:

"I think its going to be a very low turnout. A lot of people will be voting between now and 8 p.m.," Spitzer said. "If they haven't yet, go out and vote and vote for me. I did a lot of phoning with a lot of people helping me over the last four weeks. Hopefully they're out there voting."

Election Day -- 4:15 p.m.

Patch reporter Terence Calacsan recently checked in with candidate , who is running against three others for the two-year term seat left vacant by Cerritos Councilman Mark E. Pulido earlier this year:

"With this campaign, we've done a very clean and very good campaign with lots of volunteers and friends helping," Chen said. "I'm sure the voters will see my qualifications and will agree that I'm the best qualified candidate and will vote for me."

Chen went on to say how proud she was of the campaign she ran in this election.

"We're glad that we kept it a clean and nice campaign," she said, adding that "there was some negative campaigning by other candidates."

Election Day -- 3:35 p.m.

Patch reporter Ed Carrasco dropped by one of the polling locations earlier this afternoon to get a feel for voter turnout and feedback thus far:

Longtime Cerritos resident Gail Grossman, who has used her home on Ashworth Place as an polling place for 41 years now, is very familiar with the ebbs and flows of an election day.

Grossman told Patch that as of about 1:08 p.m. there had been "nominal turnout" with 103 votes cast, which she said was "a lot more than we thought."

"There's been a constant flow of people all day," she said. "Sometimes we'd have a rush of people."

Voter Jane Stout said she voted for the incumbent candidates for the four-year seats and for the two-year seat.

"I voted for the incumbents because as former band booster president of , we have been given great support from and . "Both have been to several of our concerts and they have made sure that the program continues to be funded."

The polls will close at 8 p.m. today.

Election Day -- 3 p.m.

We just spoke to candidate , who is running for the two-year term seat left vacant by Cerritos Councilman Mark E. Pulido earlier this year, and she shared her thoughts with us on this Election Day:

Johnson who voted about 1:30 p.m. at Heritage Park said she woke up this morning with a bit of anxiousness.

"I felt stressed and scared when woke up this morning, but just for a second, then I got up and felt excited too!" Johnson said with nervous laughter, adding that the last couple weeks of campaigning were quite a challenge.

"It was physically demanding, there was a lot to do. Lots of calls to be made, and walking to be done," she said. "It was all very challenging, but also so rewarding to be out on the precinct walks and meeting and talking to people."

Johnson said when she went in to vote earlier today, she noticed a low turnout and urged community members to head to their polling stations and exercise their right to vote in these final hours.

"The polls close at 8 p.m. today and I know people are busy, but I hope they go out and vote because every vote will count," she said. "This is a very close election, and so it is important that everyone comes out to vote."
