ABC School Board Vice President Armin Reyes Is Ready For Four More Years
Armin Reyes celebrates his 49th birthday and talks a little about his campaign for re-election.
Tucked away in the corner of , a man celebrated his 49th birthday –- a great day out for grilled food, cold drinks and friends. On Sept. 10, ABC School Board Vice President, Armin Reyes, took time out of his day to wax rhapsodic about maintaining the continuity of the board.
“We have proven that, given all the problems that we face, the leadership and understanding of the board on how to do more with less, bear fruits,” Reyes said.
As an Army Reserve soldier, Reyes has earned the rank of major, all the while winning re-election to the board in 2007. Serving in Iraq, it hasn’t stopped him from handling his school board duties. This time around, one of his concerns is the student achievement gap.
“Now we’re focusing on specific problems,” Reyes said. “As a whole, , but we need to fill gaps. I believe we just need to convey to the community that we’re doing a good job. The scores speak for themselves.”
In attendance was Reyes former fellow boardmember, Cerritos Councilmember Mark Pulido. Pulido, only six months off the board, also believes in the continuity of leadership in the district.
“ABC is a great school district that provides a phenomenal education for all its students thanks to the long-time service of Armin Reyes and my former colleagues on the board” Pulido said. “It’s important to have continuity, because their leadership is reflective of long-term relationships that they’ve built with all stakeholders in the community: teachers, administrators, business leaders and students. When you lose good leadership, then you have to start all over.”
