Broadview Mortgage Provides Major Gift to ABCUSD Program

This press release was written by the ABC Education Foundation

Broadview Mortgage, a new partner of the ABCUSD Education Foundation, has committed to sponsoring the ABC Unified School District’s Primary Intervention Program (PIP) to ensure all elementary schools in the district receive this service.

The family-owned mortgage company that provides Southern Californians with home financing is donating a generous pledge through the new ABCUSD Education Foundation to extend the PIP program from four elementary schools to ten within the district.

PIP provides a social emotional curriculum called Skillstreaming in a small group setting for three or four students, providing them with positive life skills and classroom skills, such as “How to Listen," "How to Ask for Help," "How to Handle Emotions," "Using Self-Control," "Accepting Consequences" and "Being a Good Sport." Skillstreaming has been used in pre-school settings to high school settings at ABC with wonderful results. Skillstreaming can be used with general education or special needs populations.

To continue providing the PIP program during district budget cuts, PIP on Wheels was created, allowing schools to share a PIP Aide who would schedule office hours at multiple schools. The PIP on Wheels program was previously only available at Gonsalves, Leal, Stowers and Wittman Elementary Schools.  With Broadview’s gift, Hawaiian, Cerritos, Niemes, Bragg, and Kennedy Elementary Schools will also receive a PIP Aide one day per week for six hours per day.  The other nine elementary schools in the district will also begin offering PIP services (drawing on a different source of funds) so that all 19 elementary schools in ABCUSD will now offer the program.

"Broadview Mortgage's long term gift to the ABCUSD Education Foundation will provide Skillstreaming at every ABC elementary school through the ABC Primary Intervention Program or PIP,” said ABCUSD Superintendent, Dr. Mary Sieu.  “The PIP program at ABC provides over 1,000 students with classroom skills and social or emotional supports.  ABC teachers report that students have improved attendance, attitudes, self-esteem and self-confidence.  These important life skills will translate to better school achievement and improved student outcomes.  We look forward to a long partnership with Broadview."
