Cerritos College Celebrates Opening of New Facilities and Purchasing Complex

The grand opening ceremony was held on Friday, March 2; in attendance were Cerritos Mayor Carol Chen and Mayor Pro Tem Jim Edwards along with city manager Art Gallucci and ABC School Board Vice President Celia Spitzer.

Cerritos College hosted a grand opening for its newly completed Facilities and Purchasing Complex on Friday, March 2, drawing community members, dignitaries, college staff, officials and faculty for the special ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new 34,000 square-foot building, which cost $7.4 million to build, was funded by the G.O. bond and occupies approximately 1.5 acres on the campus. The building houses purchasing, warehouse, facilities, grounds and custodians as well as the emergency operations plan (EOP) command center. Fifty-nine full-time and eight part-time employees inhibit the building's 45 rooms and offices including three conference rooms, according to the college.

To reduce electric costs, 37 skylights are incorporated throughout the building, which stores a 250 kilowatt generator for use in emergencies by the campus police.
