Cerritos College to Host Traditional Chinese Dagu Performance

First 100 guests will be entered into a complimentary drawing for welcome prizes.

In partnership with the San Diego State University Confucius Institute, Rio Hondo College and Cerritos College will be hosting a Dagu international cultural performance on Thursday, March 21, at 7 p.m.

Traditional Chinese operatic storytelling and story-singing will be performed by nationally acclaimed artists in China, including actress/singer Yang Fengjie, actress/sihu player Wang Hongmin, three-stringed lute player Zheng Liwen and actor/lute player Xia Yan.

The program will consist of performances from traditional and cultural Chinese stories such as the war story ChangBan Po, the romantic fantasy Capturing SanLang and the comedy Tao Hwa Jian.

"These stories are very well-known in China," said Cerritos College Trustee Dr. Shin Liu. "The evening will be a great introduction to Chinese culture for anyone who is interested."

The event will take place at the Student Center's Main Stage & Dining Room area at the Cerritos College campus, 11110 Alondra Blvd., in Norwalk. (A map of the campus is available at www.cerritos.edu/map or www.cerritos.edu/google-map.)

The event is free and open to the public. Complimentary commemorative tickets will be available from the Cerritos College Office of Student Activities and at Rio Hondo College. Free parking in Lots C-1 and C-10 in white-lined student stalls.

Program Details:

The program will run about 1 1/2 hours, concluding at aproximately 9 p.m. Traditional tea and tea cookies will be served, compliments of the hosts.

The first 100 guests will be eligible to be entered into a free drawing to win one of a variety of food, tea, and other gift certificates and prizes.

Guests will also have an opportunity to meet the artists following the performance, with a donation requested. Signed photographs from the performers will be available (while supplies last) as part of this special addition to the evening's festivities. All proceeds will go to benefit future international and global awareness education programs at the college.

I've noticed that a lot of people take jobs in food service while they pursue long-term jobs thatRead More match their field of study. If they do, they need to be certified in food safety. They can learn about this at http://www.SafeFoodAcademy.com.
