Cerritos-Area High Schools Earn More Nods From National Media
The Washington Post and Newsweek have shared their own rankings of our schools.
A few weeks after , The Washington Post and Newsweek have released their own rankings of our local education.
The Washington Post devised a "High School Challenge Index," which ranked schools state-by-state, and nationally, based on the number of college-level tests given at a school in 2011 divided by the number of graduates that year. Also considered were the percentage of students who come from families that qualify for lunch subsidies and "equity and excellence" (E&E), the percentage of graduates who passed at least one college-level test during their high school career, called equity and excellence.
was ranked 38th out of 293 schools in California. It ranked 378 against more than 1,900 schools across the country.

In Newsweek, 1,000 public schools were ranked based on six components provided by school administrators: graduation rate (25 percent), college matriculation rate (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent), and AP courses offered per student (5 percent).
Both and appeared in Newsweek's rankings.
