Crowd Gathers for Johnson's Kick-Off in School Board Race

Former Cerritos High School PTSA president, Lynda Johnson, treats guests to lunch and refreshments during party launching campaign in ABC School Board run.

Last Sunday, longtime Cerritos resident Lynda Johnson kicked off her campaign to fill the empty seat on the ABC School Board. Being one of six candidates, Johnson invited local residents to  in Cerritos, for lunch and the introduction of her plans in anticipation of the Nov. 8 election.

Johnson’s experience with the lies first in her ABC education from elementary to high school. With 25 years experience as a paralegal for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Johnson also served as Parent-Teacher-Student Association president for three years at .

“I’m in it to win it,” Johnson said. “Me and my core team are working really hard around the clock to start getting out to the voters, getting voters to register. I want to make as much contact as I can to the people; that’s kind of one of my strongest assets.  I’m going to make it a fun campaign, a grassroots campaign.”

Johnson’s daughter, Cerritos High School and UCLA graduate Lauren Poblete, is serving as her campaign manager. Poblete said she would like to utilize the younger crowd and social media, but also implement traditional methods.

“We definitely have plans for precinct walking, phone banking and having a few volunteer fundraising events,” Poblete said. 

Present at the kick-off was recently elected Artesia councilmember, . Canales believes Johnson’s active voice with the community will be a great asset in her campaign.

“She would be a great board member,” Canales said. “I feel that she is going to have a great relationship between the union representatives and the board.”

Johnson stressed that her campaign is "not my campaign," but was a campaign for everyone involved.

"Everybody has a part!" Johnson said. "Everybody can participate. Everybody can do it. We can all do this together."

In an email thanking her supporters following the launch party, Johnson wrote:

We would love your help and support in phone banking, precinct walking, posting a lawn sign, attending fundraising events and donations.
