Disappointing Turnout Puts Whitney High Food Truck Mondays on Indefinite Hold

If you were a fan of the Monday night food truck gatherings at Whitney High, this news may disappoint you.

Whitney High School's Monday night food truck rally has been on holiday hiatus since mid December, but event organizers now say a return date for the weekly food truck gathering has yet to be decided because of disappointing turnout.

"We have not established a date to bring the Whitney High School location back yet," said Curbside Bite's Morgan Harper. "We are hoping that the low attendance was due to the cold weather, and (we) will see once things get a little warmer if there is demand for it again."

The weekly food truck dinner events, which feature at least five mobile food vendors, were first introduced to locals in Spring 2011 when Crepes Bonaparte owner Christian Murcia and Joseph Sue, the owner of the Calbi BBQ, launched a weekly diners' delight at the parking lot Cerritos in mid April of 2011. The neighborhood craze immediately drew swarms of people from Cerritos, Artesia and other nearby cities because it offered a unique opportunity for diners to enjoy a variety of different foods and flavors all in one place.

A few months later event organizers teamed up with local high schools, and Whitney High, to host a dinner rally once a week in the schools' parking lots. As part of the agreement, vendors donated a portion of their proceeds to the respective school each week. For the Wildcats, the monies were helping fund the construction of the new Multimedia Training Facility being built near the basketball courts.

While the Monday night dinner event has been put on indefinite hiatus, Harper says Cerritos High's Thursday night food truck gathering will resume this week. ( to view the Dons' Thursday night dinner lineup.)
