Firm’s 2012 Employment Law Conference

Attendance Hits Peak Levels

More than 700 Business Leaders Register to Learn Legal Intricacies of Employment Law

CERRITOS, CALIF. —The law firm of Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo (AALRR) reports that an unprecedented number of attendees have registered for the 2012Employment Law Conference entitled ‘Perspectives: A Unique Learning Opportunity for California Employers.’ The conference offers presentations on key legal developments, emerging issues and economic trends for a broad range of professionals who deal with employment issues. This marks the 13th year of the conference, which has grown sevenfold since it first began.

"Any employer who wants to avoid the surprise and confusion from the constantly changing employment laws should attend this conference," advises Regina Rutledge, at Star One Credit Union in San Jose.

Of the 12 breakout sessions at this year’s conference, the more popular ones are

Nuts & Bolts of FMLA/CRFA, a two-part series focused on leave adminis-tration/expiration; Understanding Compensable Time, which explores the increased exposure for employers to claims based upon “hours worked” issues; and Discrimination Claims are on the Rise, which provides attendees with five easy tips to avoid discrimination claims. All workshops are led by attorneys who focus on California employment matters.

A well-known guest speaker for the conference is Dr. Esmael Adibi, Director of the A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research affiliated with Chapman University. His research focus is analyzing key economic indicators for the U.S. and California economies.

“I have attended 11 of the AALRR Employment Law Conferences and they get better every year!  I wouldn't miss it for the world---great speakers, timely topics, and a broad spectrum of knowledge make it the best conference and at an exceptionally reasonable price,” said conference participant Jeanette Parr, the Human Resource Director for Zodiac Aerospace.

Partner Paul S. Fleck who co-chairs the 2012 conference with Partner Scott Dauscher, credits audience feedback for the event’s popularity. “This conference is based upon continual research to improve it each year so that every participant will come away with something important to bring back to the workplace,” says Fleck.

Ken Cornelison from the Council on Aging-Orange County agrees it is well worth the time. “This is a great conference and I make every effort to attend each year.  I use the information to stay current as a volunteer board member at the Council on Aging-Orange County,” he says.

In 2011, this conference drew 42% of attendees from the ranks of human resource managers and directors. Another 18% of participants were company presidents, owners or attorneys, and the balance of those registered were administrators involved with human resources.

Without the proper knowledge relating to employment law, companies and agencies could avail themselves to the risk of commercial litigation for breach of contract, class actions, employment disputes, and many other violations. AALRR‘s commercial litigation practice represents a diverse clientele in working to resolve all types of legal controversy related to business issues.

“Attending the Employment Law Conference should be percieved as preventative maintenance for business,” according to Robert L. Wenzel, partner and practice chair of the firm’s employment and labor practice group.

The conference will be hosted by AALRR at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts on March 29. For more information on these events, please visit www.aalrr.com or contact Jane Guesnon at (562) 653-3409.
