Fiscal Report and Union Agreements Approved By ABC School Board

The ABC School Board approved the unaudited fiscal report for 2011-2013 as well as two union agreements.

During its first meeting in September, the ABC School Board discussed the financial report of fiscal year 2011-12. Union agreements were also made by the board.

Unaudited Actual Fiscal Report 2011-12

According to Assistant Superintendent Toan Nguyen, the county department spent July and part of August closing the books on the current financial report, ensuring all revenues are accounted for in the right programs. The report then needs to go to an outside auditor.

"We want to make sure that we close the books with the rules and regulations so that the outside auditors, when they audit our records, everything's clean," Nguyen said. "That's our goal."

Report Figures:
General Fund Revenues: $163,975,083
General Fund Expenditures: $168,360,126

Total Reserve: $12,812,888

Tentative Agreement Made Between the Board of Education and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO, Local 2229, Council 36 Xi: Calendar for the 2012-2013 School Year

"We've had an agreement with our unions regarding the furlough days, and this agreement reflects for four furlough days," said Board Administrator Carol Hansen. "However, over the last four years, we have agreed that we would pay the overtime and extra hours and stipends on the non-furlough schedule and that is consistent with all of our unions."

Agreement between the Board of Education and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO, Local 2229, Council 36 for Health and Welfare benefits for the 2012-2013 school year

There is an estimated 1.5 percent increase in costs ($53,476) for the negotiated level of health benefit programs for the 2012-2013 school year. The school board approved a new agreement for union health and welfare benefits.

"The district does cover that cost," Hansen said. "We do allow members to take part in open enrollment, so if they wanted to choose to change if the cost is not something they want to take on, they have an option to enroll in our Kaiser Plan for no cost for a fully-covered family. That open enrollment period is from Aug. 23. to Sept. 7.

Reducing Board Member Compensation

The school board also agreed to a reduction in stipend pay, which results in savings of approximately $1,510.

The next school board meeting will be held on Sept. 18.
