Lynda Johnson Launches Grassroots Campaign for ABC School Board

Long-time local Lynda Johnson will kick off her campaign for a seat on the ABC School Board this Sunday at Sunshine Park.

Long-time Cerritos resident and active ABC parent volunteer leader, Lynda Johnson, will officially kick-off her campaign for a seat on the ABC School Board this Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011 at 2 p.m. at in Cerritos.

Local residents and members of the press are invited to attend the Sunday gathering, scheduled to last until 4 p.m., to learn about her candidacy and her plan to improve our local schools.

As a former three-time president of the School PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association), Johnson is a 40-year resident of the City of Cerritos and a graduate of Artesia High School. She attended Cabrillo Lane Elementary, and . Johnson is the proud parent of three adult children who all graduated from Cerritos High School – Lauren (a UCLA graduate), Roy Jr. (a Whittier College student) and Ryan (U.S. Naval Academy first year plebe).

Johnson brings many years of involvement in the local community as a basketball coach, classroom volunteer and PTA/PTSA officer. Under her leadership, the highly successful annual Cerritos High School Golf Tournament was established raising thousands of dollars in funding for school improvement projects and student scholarships.

Professionally, Johnson has more than 25 years of experience in law enforcement as a paralegal with the District Attorney’s Office and previously at the Los Cerritos Municipal Court.

Johnson is running for the vacant seat on the ABC Unified School District Board of Education -- the term for this seat expires in December 2013. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011.

The serves the cities of Artesia, Cerritos, Hawaiian Gardens, and portions of Lakewood, Long Beach and Norwalk.
