Incumbent Celia Spitzer Marks the Beginning of Her Re-Election Campaign to ABC School Board

Celia Spitzer kicks off her campaign for re-election to a four-year term on the ABC School Board.

On Sept. 18, incumbent Celia Spitzer kicked off her leg of the race for re-election to the ABC School Board in November. With a group of familiar faces from the district to Cerritos government, Spitzer marked the beginning of what will be an intense campaign.

Former Cerritos Mayor Pro Tem Laura Lee and husband Charles Lee opened up their home to allow Spitzer to rally her troops, which consisted of a collection of friends, family and elected officials willing to lend their time and money to her cause.

“I don’t know about other people,” Spitzer said, referring to her campaign strategy in this election. "I know what I’m doing with mailers, with phoning to get out the vote and to contact people to support me to continue on with what I’ve been doing. I'll do it one more time."

Originally elected in 1999 and re-elected 2007, Spitzer has  made waves in the district as sort of a detail junkie, making sure nothing gets passed her during the meetings. Board president, , referred to Spitzer as “our very own human spellchecker.” As one of Spitzer's supporters, Law believes in keeping the continuity of the current board.

“We think of ourselves as a team,” Law said. “It’s very important that we keep the team together. We really need that continuity to continue.”

Former boardmember and current Cerritos City Council member, Mark Pulido, said Celia represents “three Ts.”

“Thorough-- she’s very thorough, “ Pulido said. “Thoughtful--she doesn’t just make knee-jerk reactions. Team leader--she’s not just a teamplayer; she’s a team leader.”
