Preview Preschools This Saturday in Lakewood

The first-ever MOMs Preschool Fair at San Martin Park will enable parents of young children to receive information and ask questions about area preschools.

Choosing the right preschool can seem like a daunting task for any parent. Weighing each aspect of the preschool and making a decision that is good for both the parents and the child oftentimes can have a life-long impact on the entire family.

Understanding those options and knowing what first step to take is behind what the MOMS Club of Lakewood is bringing this Saturday, May 26, at its inaugural Preschool Fair, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the community room at San Martin Park in Lakewood.

MOMs, which stands for “Moms Offering Moms Support,” is a non-profit membership organization that serves mothers in Lakewood, Bellflower, Cerritos, and surrounding areas. It is one of many chapters of MOMS Club International.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will provide a forum for parents of young children to receive information about area preschools, ask questions of school representatives and sign up for tours. Kids will also be able to enjoy crafts and face painting.

“Our organization hosts community service activities each year,” said Lisa Klimas, president of the MOMS Club of Lakewood and a stay-at-home mom. “Many of our members have children who are preschool age or younger, and are in the process of deciding on preschools. Considering the large number of preschool options available in our community and the time and energy it takes to research them, we felt it would be helpful for both our members and the public to offer a forum for parents to receive information on several local schools at one time.”

Some of the many schools attending include ABC Parent Education Preschool, Bellflower; Unified School District, Cerritos; Learning Tree Pre-School; Concordia Lutheran School; First Steps Christian Pre-School; Long Beach City College Child Development Center; Montessori School Eureka; St. Timothy Lutheran School; and Twain Child Development Center.
